WHAT TO BRING TO QUARANTINE

You should prepare to spend up to 14 days in quarantine and should bring any items that you expect you will need during that time. Suggested items to pack include:

  • Clothing
  • Pillows
  • Sheets
  • Towels
  • Personal Hygiene Items
    (soap, toothbrush/paste, deodorant, shampoo)
  • Medications
    (prescription, pain relief, allergy)
  • Academic Materials
    (text books, notebooks)
  • Laptop/Tablet/Computer
  • Chargers
  • Non-perishable food/snacks

INCLUDED IN YOUR QUARANTINE ROOM

  • Bed
  • Desk
  • Dresser
  • Private Bathroom
  • Heat/ AC
  • Toilet Paper
  • Cleaning Supplies
    * If the bed in your quarantine assignment is a different size than the bed in your current room, disposable linens can be provided.

RULES AND EXPECTATIONS

Stay In Your Room

  • Stay home unless urgent medical care is needed.
  • Do not go to work, school, or public areas, such as library or dining halls on campus.
  • Do not use common areas like lounges and kitchens in residence halls.
  • Do not visit other residents in their rooms or allow them to visit in your room.
  • Do not use public transportation.

Failure to abide by these instructions will result in a referral to Student Conduct and Integrity for campus conduct charges. You may also be subject to immediate dismissal from on campus housing.

CLEAN YOUR HANDS OFTEN

  • Clean your hands often with soap and water (for 20 seconds) or with hand sanitizer containing 60-95% alcohol.
  • If using hand sanitizer with alcohol, cover all surfaces of your hands and rub hands together until they feel dry.
  • Use soap and water if your hands are visibly dirty.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Clean your hands if you do touch your face.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes with your sleeve (not your hands) or tissue. Throw tissues away in trashcan with a plastic bag and clean your hands after you throw away the tissue.

CLEAN ``HIGH-TOUCH`` SURFACES EACH DAY

We ask you to be responsible for cleaning your room and bathroom. Supplies are provided for you.

  • Clean “high-touch” surfaces such as counters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, and bedside tables.
  • Clean any surfaces that have blood, stool or bodily fluids on them.
  • Use household cleaning spray or wipe, according to label instructions. Read cleaning product label instructions for safe and effective use of the cleaning products.

MONITOR YOUR SYMPTOMS

  • If this is a medical emergency and you live on campus, call Campus Safety at 919.516.4411 and notify the dispatcher that you have COVID-19 or symptoms suggestive of COVID-19. If you have a facemask, put it on before emergency medical services arrive.
  • Use acetaminophen (Tylenol) for treating fever.

FIRE ALARMS/DRILLS

In the event of a fire alarm activation, you must evacuate the building. Please go to the door of the room you are in and feel the back of the door for heat. If the door is HOT, leave it closed and contact Campus Safety at 919.516.4411.

  • If the door is cool, open the door and look in both directions for any sign of visible fire or smoke. If there are no signs of smoke or fire, use the closest safe exit path to evacuate the building, wearing face covering and maintaining social distance.
  • If smoke or fire are visible and you can evacuate, go in the opposite direction of the smoke and fire to the nearest exit, once out of the building, seek a place with appropriate distancing to the other evacuees and notify police of your location outside the building.
  • If the smoke and fire are blocking your escape, return to your room, close the door, place damp towels around the door to obstruct the smoke, and call Campus Safety and let them know of your location.
  • If in Weston or Latham Hall, please use stairwell to vacate the building through the front door and wait in the Career service parking lot until the building has been cleared. Once cleared, please wait for students to reenter the building. Once the entry areas are cleared, please return inside building, and avoid entering elevators with other students, if possible.
  • If in James Boyer Hall, please use stairwell to vacate the building and wait across the street on the grass next to the pavilion until the building has been cleared. Once cleared, please wait for students to reenter the building. Once the entry areas are cleared, please return inside building, and avoid entering elevators with other students, if possible.
  • If in Falkcrest, please use the stairwell to vacate the building and wait in the middle lawn until the building has been cleared. Once cleared, please wait for students to reenter the building. Once the entry areas are cleared, please return inside building, and avoid entering elevators with other students, if possible.

LEAVING QUARANTINE

Over the course of your quarantine SAU staff will be in contact with you about how you are doing and whether you are experiencing new or worsening symptoms. It is important that you provide this information honestly and answer any other questions that may be asked to the best of your ability. Your answers will help us to work with your health care provider and/or local health department to determine when your quarantine will end.

Once you have been cleared for release from quarantine, SAU staff will assist you in transitioning back to your on-campus living space.
